Caffeine, it practically runs through my veins.  I remember when I was little thinking how in the World can my mom and dad drink that stuff, yuck!

It wasn’t until I was in college that I even remotely liked coffee and I owe that to my job as a barista.

As your job you are required to taste all sorts of espresso, coffee, pastries, etc so you can accurately describe and pair them when speaking with customers.  Let me just say, best.job.ever.

And so began my love of coffee.

I like my coffee flavored.  The actual coffee itself doesn’t need to be flavored but I always add either a sugar free syrup or sugar free creamers.  Sometimes both.  In my opinion, I don’t need 1 days’ worth of my sugar consumption to come from my cup o’ joe. We love the sugar-free syrups from Torani.

I have also turned my husband into an espresso connoisseur, only getting his americano from “The Siren.”

I’m a huge fan of coffee flavored everything.  Chocolate, cocktails, tiramisu, if it’s got coffee in it, I’m ordering it.

If you remember I made these delicious Espresso Chocolate Chip Cookies last year.  I have 6 bags of espresso chocolate chips hoarded in my freezer right now.  Which, come to think of it, I should whip up another batch of cookies.

Now we have an espresso machine at home, so we can make our own version of lattes and skip the drive through.  This save us money, time and it’s healthier too.

We recently discovered Gourmesso coffee capsules and we’re in love.  We found them around the time of the holidays, so our entire family would gather around the espresso machine in awe.  We had fun experimenting with different varieties and everyone taking a sip.  Brought me back to my early days of being a barista.  We came to the conclusion, we all loved house blend lungo dark.  I’ve got my eye on their coconut – soffio noce di cocco next.

This Sea Salt Caramel Mocha couldn’t be easier to whip up.  It’s perfect for getting your fuel on those busy mornings, saving money and being your own personal barista.

I started by heating up some almond milk and mixing it with unsweetened cocoa powder and some stevia.  I love to use this Handheld Electric Milk Frother.  It’s great for a quick blend and also frothes milk for cappuccinos and lattes beautifully.  Then I brewed a house blend lungo coffee capsule and added that to the milk.  I finished the mocha off with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzle and a sprinkling of sea salt.

Yield 1 (14oz) mocha

Creamy espresso blends perfectly with chocolate and almond milk, topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle and a sprinkle of sea salt, making this Sea Salt Caramel Mocha irresistibly delicious!

Ingredients

3/4 cup milk, I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 stevia packet

2 shots espresso

whipped cream, I used fat free Reddi Whip

1/2 tablespoon caramel sauce, I used sugar free

1/2 tablespoon chocolate sauce, I used sugar free

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

In microwave, heat milk for 2 minutes or until hot.

Add cocoa powder and stevia to hot milk. Whisk until combined.

Add espresso and stir.

Top with whipped cream, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and a sprinkle of sea salt.

*you may want to adjust the stevia to your preferred level of sweetness. I found that 1 pack was sweet while still having a strong coffee taste.

It’s absolutely delicious!  What I love about being your own barista is the countless was you can craft your own beverage.  My husband loves Americano, so we just run a few coffee capsules through the machine, and in no time, he has an Americano just the way he likes it.

If you’re a coffee lover like me, and caffeine runs through your veins, give this Sea Salt Caramel Mocha a try.  It’ll satisfy your coffee craving and your indulgent side.

I drink my coffee black – but every so often, I get a hankering for something a little more indulgent — I think this qualifies.

I also used to work as a barista 🙂 It was one of those jobs when I was studying at university, and I loved it! Even to this day, I can tell if the milk has been warmed to the right temperature or if they left the espresso sitting for too long 😉 Alas, we don’t have any fancy coffee machine at home, but we do have a milk frother – an essential gadget, in my opinion!

I love using almond milk in my coffee because it’s a little creamier than low fat milk but still low in calories. But then topping with a little whipped cream gives you that extra indulgence a special coffee is supposed to have, am I right!?

I love coffee everything too! Any time we go out for ice cream, coffee is my flavor. Everyone calls me an old fart. Apparently only old people like coffee ice cream? LOL. Whatever. I just had Starbucks this morning but I soooooo wish I had this instead! Totally making this tomorrow!

Torani sugar free is AMAZING – I love how they get such good flavor in their syrups, that you can’t tell they’re sugar free (although not sugar free, try their Caramal Bourbon – it’s CRAZY good).

This looks like a really special way to enjoy a cup of coffee – I must try it when I next need a fix!

You know – I look at those lovely drinks in the coffee bars, and they look good – but if I”m there, I’m taking a quick break between clients. I want something luxurious like this when I get home, and can put my feet up and give it the attention it deserves!

So now, with this recipe, I can do that…

We are serious coffee people and believe it or not my 12 year old and 6 year old loves coffee as well and I make lattes (kind of) with more milk and less coffee as a treat or on a weekend. I would love to have worked as a Barista. Your photographs are marvelous and makes me want to grab the coffee from the screen.
