This is Halloween, this is Halloween.  Name that movie.  First person to get it right and I’ll send you some virtual Halloween Candy Bark.  If you’ve been reading this blog for some time, then you know that Halloween is right up there with Christmas for me.  I absolutely love this time of year.

The older I get, the more I just love Halloween.  The kids picked out their costumes weeks ago, the house is decorated and the only thing that remains is purchasing candy.  I wait ‘til the last second so that I don’t eat all of it before I have a chance to pass it out.  Anyone with me?  Darn Reese’s Peanut butter cups and Kit Kats!  I mean I could buy the crappy candy but then our house would be labeled “Crappy Candy” house and you don’t want to be known as that house.

When we were kids, we always knew what houses to hit.  There were a couple of houses on our street that would give out change.  It was only a couple of nickels and dimes, but we were thrilled to get home and count our money. One lady would reach into a freshly popped popcorn bowl, dig her hand in and throw us some popcorn.  We only hit that house 1 year and that was the end of that.

Our bags would be so heavy from just trick or treating down our block, that we would make a pit stop at home to stop and drop and head back out for more.  Halloween was so different then.  There aren’t a lot of houses in our neighborhood that participate in Halloween, be that it’s too early in the day, crummy outside of their just Scrooges, I dunno.  When we were kids, everyone’s lights were on and it was a big deal.

I’ll never forget forging through our candy to pick out our favorite pieces, count our change and throw away the now squished popcorn in the bottom of our bag.  My mom would get all of the Mary Jane’s, my sister all the sour candies and me all the Snickers.  It was a win all around.

One thing never changes, the swapping and trading of Halloween Candy.  My son loves Kit Kats while my daughter would rather eat pretzels.  My husband and I sneak all the good candy while they are sleeping and hide the wrappers so the kids are none the wiser.

I love this Halloween Candy Bark because you can use some of the trick or treat candy to make a delicious bark, filled with the whole families favorite treats.  Line a baking sheet with a Silpat, gather all your candies together and place your chocolate chips and/or melts into separate Hefty® Slider Bags.  I used green, white and purple but feel free to use any colors you’d like.

For this Halloween Candy Bark, I used Halloween Oreos, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, pretzels, candy eyeballs, candy corn and sprinkles.  A little bit of something for everyone.  Feel free to switch it up with whatever candies, treats and sweets you like.  That’s the fun part.  My daughter absolutely loved helping me place all the goodies on top.  It’s a great way to get the kids involved and have a little Halloween food project.

Halloween Candy Bark is also easy peasy and no clean up.  I placed white chocolate chips and different colored candy melts into Hefty Slider bags, melted for 1 minute, removing after 30 seconds to squish the bag and poof, melted chocolate.  Simply cut the tip of the bag and you’ve got a piping bag you can use to spread the chocolate out and make a fun swirled pattern.

Courses Candy

My kids loved this Halloween Candy Bark and I mean who wouldn’t?  I’ve already made another batch and planned to do it again after Halloween with the left over candy.

I love Hefty® Slider Bags.  They have an extra strong seal, click when closed and cost less than Ziploc.  I shop at Wal-Mart as they have a great selection of Hefty® Slider Bags in all different sizes.  I like to stock up especially when Ibotta is offering a rebate of $1.50 when they buy two packages of Hefty® Slider Bags. Can’t miss a deal like that, especially around the holidays.  Grab your coupon today.

Truth be told, I usually start baking cookies right after Halloween and store them in Hefty Freezer bags so I’m not so overwhelmed when December rolls around.  Hefty® Slider Bags feature a MaxLock® track design so I know my holiday goodies will still be good when it’s time for those cookie trays to be made.  Be sure to check out their Handy Hints to see more tips, tricks and suggestions as to how Hefty® Slider Bags can help you in your everyday life!
