Is there anything more nostalgic than a chili cheese dog?  The mere sight of one on the restaurant menu has my husband’s menu lying flat on the table.  Order up!

When I was a kid and my mom would make chili cheese dogs, there wouldn’t be a crumb left on my plate.  Sometimes she’d cut up the hot dog, place chili and cheese on top and we’d eat it with a spoon.  It’s such a budget friendly meal and one I’m happy to serve my kids…and husband too!

We always have hot dogs and shredded cheese on hand.  I can’t keep a package of Oscar Mayer Uncured Angus Beef Franks in the house for longer than 2 days.  And cheese, it doesn’t stand a chance here.

So recently I decided to make Easy Chili Dogs for dinner.  I headed to Wal-Mart to pick up more hot dogs, chili, buns and cheese.  As I was loading up the cart, I was thinking how fun chili cheese dogs would be for summer gatherings.  They’re easy, budget friendly and can feed a large amount of people. Not to mention, they’re delicious and crowd pleasing too!  Father’s Day, Fourth of July, birthdays, these are all perfect occasions, this summer, for Easy Chili Dogs.

When my husband came home and saw the chili heating up on the stove and the hot dogs cooking on the grill he knew exactly what was going down.  He was ecstatic, like a kid in a candy store!

Dinner was ready in the time it took to cook the hot dogs; 8 minutes.  Now that is what I call a quick weeknight meal!  We served our Easy Chili Dogs with chips but if you’re feeling like going all out, diner style, serve them with fries and a milkshake too.  How fun would a diner summer party be with an Easy Chili Dog and milkshake bar.  Everyone could craft their own.  Yep, that is totally happening this summer at my house.

Just look at that delicious angus beef hot dog, smothered in delicious chili and topped with melty cheese!  How could you say no to that?!  Make these Easy Chili Dogs for all your summer gatherings this year and you’ll save time and money by doing so.  It’s win-win!

I wasn’t born in Canada so I actually have never tried chili dog. But my husband who is canadian keeps telling me about chili dogs and I’ve been wanting to try them for many years now. They do look like a perfect messy and cheesy summer treat!

I love chili dogs in the summer. They’re so simple. Once I forgot to add the hot dog and just had chili and slaw and cheese and onion in a bun, whoops.

I always have cheese in our house also. I do eat hot dogs occasionally, and have put just cheese on them more than a few times. I live at the shore so dogs like this are very popular around here.
