Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs

These Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs have been sponsored by Kraft Foods. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs will be your new cookout meal.  Hot dogs are basted with BBQ sauce and topped with a grilled pineapple and cucumber salsa for a fresh, delicious take on a summertime classic!

Fire up the grill, the warm weather is here.  You don’t even know how happy that statement makes me.

Living in the Midwest, I feel like we’ve been living in eternal winter this year and I am so over it.  I’m ready to break out the charcoal, throw the hot dogs on the grill and relax on the patio and soak up the sun.

We love BBQ season and live it to the fullest, which starts with these Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs.

When the warm weather starts to approach, I hit the store with the intention of stocking our fridge and freezer with all the grilling essentials.

We live in a neighborhood where 17 of us, adults and kids, hang out every weekend.  So, it’s important to have a well-stocked kitchen at a moment’s notice when it’s time to eat.

I head to Walmart where I pick up our essentials which include;

  • Oscar Mayer Wieners
  • Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (the 5 pack because there’s a lot of mouths to feed),
  • Kraft Slow-Simmered Barbecue Sauce
  • Kraft Sweet Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce
  • Heinz Yellow Mustard
  • Oscar Mayer Bacon

Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs

My kids absolutely love hot dogs so there is never a shortage in this house.  My husband and I also enjoy them but I love to serve them with delicious, unexpected toppings.

I had this idea to mix pineapple juice with Kraft Sweet Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce and baste it over the hot dogs while they’re cooking.

The pineapple juice intensifies the sweetness of the brown sugar and caramelizes the hot dogs as they cook.

Then I took the pineapple rings from the juice, grilled them and threw them into a delicious grilled pineapple and cucumber salsa with red onions, cilantro and a little bit of lime juice.

That’s how these Hawaiian BBQ Hot Dogs were created.  You’re welcome.

Once the hot dogs are done cooking, you place them into a bun and top with the grilled pineapple cucumber salad.

Since I knew we had company coming over, I also cooked up a few boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner.  But there’s a catch (there’s always a twist with me) – I add in Heinz Yellow Mustard for a delicious, yet unexpected flavor.

Oh, and then I topped it with Oscar Mayer Bacon! Oh yes, I did!

I’m telling you that you have got to try and put mustard into your macaroni and cheese.  And I’m not talking about mustard powder, I’m talking about Heinz Yellow Mustard.  It’s absolute goodness.

I served this meal in the neighborhood the other weekend and everything got rave reviews.

Wow that’s a lot people to feed each weekend! And this is so clever- it makes total sense to add flavor to the hot dogs while they cook, but it never occurred to me! (And what?! You add mustard to your mac + cheese?? I need to try that!)

You’ve hit my weak spot. Grilled hot dogs — and the fresh hawaiian inspired toppings look positively crave-worthy. I’m a pineapple fiend — and I love the way you’ve grilled the fruit before piling it salsa-like onto the dog. Cool tip on the mac and cheese, too. I’ve never thought of putting mustard into the mix — but it makes so much sense — and bacon. Well, of course… BACON! Well done.

Sometimes it’s all about the meat but then it’s also about the addition and sides to complete a tasty meal. Those dogs need the delicious relish and mac and cheese. Now just give me some good weather and I’ll be set.

I was just saying the other day that I need to step up my hotdog game to introduce some fun and festive flavors for this summer’s picnics. I love the sweet and savory combination in these with the BBQ sauce and pineapple! The chopped cucumber must be so refreshing in the salsa, as well. I’ll definitely be offering these at my next cookout!

I looooove grilled pineapple – I just had it over the weekend. I never even thought to add it to my hot dogs! I’ll be adding pineapples to my next bbq session.

When I was a kid I felt very strongly that my hot dogs should only have one thing on them, and that was ketchup. But as an adult I’ve come to very much enjoy ‘themed’ toppings to my hot dogs. I’ve never thought to do something with pineapple, but I can see how well that would work, especially with an all-beef hot dog. Plus I could see that topping being wonderful for burgers, etc!
