Apple Pie Pull Apart Bread

A quick layered bread filled with chopped apples, cinnamon, brown sugar and drizzled with a cream cheese glaze. Sure to give Apple Pie a run for its money!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk until warm (105-115°F)
  2. In a large bowl, place active dry yeast and pour milk over the top. Whisk until yeast is dissolved and let sit for 10 minutes
  3. Add egg, melted butter, sugar and salt to the yeast bowl. Mix until combined.
  4. Add in 1 ½ cups of flour, beat until combined, scraping down the bowl as needed. Stir in the remaining flour and mix until incorporated.
  5. Shape dough into a ball and place into greased bowl, turning to coat the ball.
  6. Cover and let rise, in a warm place, until almost double in size. (I place a heating pad on the low setting and place my bowl on top)
  7. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  8. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and cardamom in a small bowl
  9. Turn dough out onto floured surface and roll out into a 20x12 inch rectangle.
  10. Brush with ¼ cup melted butter and sprinkle on spice mixture followed by the apples, pressing down as you go so they stick to the dough, as much as possible.
  11. Cut the rectangle in half, lengthwise to make 2 (20x6 inch pieces) and then cut each piece crosswise into 5 (6x4 strips)
  12. Carefully make two stacks of 5 strips and then cut each stack into 4x2 inch pieces.
  13. Stagger the stacks in the prepared pan, cut sides up.
  14. Cover and let rise in a warm place until almost double in size.
  15. Preheat oven to 350°and bake 40-45 or until golden brown and cooked in the center.
  16. Allow to cool completely in the pan. Remove loaf just before serving and drizzle with cream cheese glaze.
  17. Cream Cheese Glaze
  18. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Start with 2 tablespoons of milk until desired drizzling consistency is reached.
