HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!  ❤

How was your weekend?  Did anyone celebrate Valentine’s day early?  The hubs and I decided to do dinner on Friday night in an effort to beat the crowds and avoid making reservations and it was perfect.  As I mentioned in my post Friday, which featured White Chocolate Cranberry Shortbread Heart Cookies, the in-laws took the kids for the weekend so we enjoyed a quiet dinner, with just the two of us.  It was nice and long overdue.  Of course we spent the evening chatting about the kids but that’s ok, they’re our World after all.  How about you guys, what did you do this weekend?

The children are home now and we’re planning on ordering a heart-shaped pizza and relaxing inside the cozy house as the snow has been falling since very early this morning and there is no end in sight.  The kids are off school tomorrow so we may have them pick out a movie and have them stay up a little late. We’ll pop some popcorn and eat the rest of this Strawberry Puppy Chow!  Again, my kind of Valentine’s day!

I must apologize for posting this on Valentine’s Day but please do not let that prevent you from making this because I have to declare this the best puppy chow ever!! I’m serious people.  I had to throw the bag on top of the refrigerator so I would stop eating.  (I’m 5′ tall, don’t listen to what my husband says) so there is no way I’m reaching the top of the fridge, therefore, I stash stuff up there when I have no self-control. And folks, with this Strawberry Puppy Chow, I had no self-control.  It’s that freaking good.

I’ve mentioned before that I love puppy chow and I grew up on it. My mother would always have a bag of it in our freezer, at any given time, and we could just reach in and grab a handful.  It’s just a delicious snack.  I mean what is better than crunchy Chex, peanut butter and powdered sugar?!  This recipe doesn’t contain peanut butter but it doesn’t need it.  The strawberry flavor is amazing.  Or maybe you could add some peanut butter and call it PB & J Puppy Chow…I think I’m onto something…watch out for that one someday, LOL!

(Isn’t that freeze-dried strawberry in the shape of a heart just precious?!)

I also have a recipe on the blog for Puppy Chow Truffles which are little bit size treats of our beloved Puppy Chow and were the second most popular recipe on the blog last year!  So definitely worth a try as well!  And you have to love that they’re no bake, which requires practically no time at all until you’re enjoying a sweet snack.

Some people refer to Puppy Chow as Muddy Buddies, but they are one in the same thing.  When I grew up we called it Puppy Chow, so that’s what has stuck with me for years.  Also, I would like to mention, DO NOT FEED THIS TO DOGS!  When I posted the Puppy Chow Truffles, I received numerous comments and emails letting me know I should not be feeding “Puppy Chow Truffles” to the dog.  Therefore, here is your warning. I will know if you did not read the blog post if I receive a comment or an email letting me know I shouldn’t be feeding his to dogs.  END RANT.

Strawberry Puppy Chow is so addictive and delicious.  I made this Strawberry Puppy Chow with Vanilla Chex Mix, strawberry cake mix, freeze fried strawberries, powdered sugar, candy melts and m and m’s.  The recipe is quick and easy and just has you mixing the Chex with the chocolate and powdered mixes and that’s it.  Again, I apologize for the last posting of this, on the day of, but it’s a recipe that can be made and enjoyed at anytime, it’s just in a festive heart bowl so it looks very appropriate for Valentine’s day.

I doubled the recipe as I kept some at home, for this weekend, and then sent the rest to my husband’s work.  Again, thank goodness his coworkers are willing to eat what he brings in because all the sweets are really going to send me to the dentist!  But it’s Valentine’s day and isn’t sweet and treats what it’s all about anyways.

This sounds like a lot of fun to make and to eat. My grandchildren love doing recipes like this. I can’t wait to bring them into the kitchen and lend a hand!

I’m pretty sure that I’ve never eaten regular puppy chow, but this strawberry one sounds delicious! I probably wouldn’t make it for myself, because I have ZERO self control (and even though I’m too short to reach the top of my fridge, I have a handy foot stool in the kitchen lol.) BUT- this would be awesome for a party!!!

Oh my, Megan! This looks divine! I am just a recent convert to this type of snack. My Mahjong partner, SueLen, made a great peanut butter puppy chow a few weeks back. I’m hosting the next games night and I really think I should impress them with this lovely dish. I just need to get my hands on some freeze-dried strawberries!

I’ve eaten the chocolate puppy chow — and I loved it. But the strawberry one sounds ever so much better. Now when I have something I know I’ll consume in one sitting, if allowed, I put it in the freezer. My grandsons would love this. I’ll have to make them a batch. Thank you for the inspiration.

I am old. I don’t recall ever hearing about this or having it when I was a child, or even when my boys were young. I hear about it all of the time now, for about 3 years.

Sounds like a fun recipe for Valentine’s Day! It’s a funny name, though! I had to read your post twice carefully to find out exactly what they were 😉 And good to know that it’s not for dogs! 😉

I know, isn’t it funny? I grew up calling it Puppy Chow but I know a lot of people call them Muddy Buddies. Either way, they’re both a little strange, HA! 😉

I have never heard of puppy chow and the name was so much attractive that I had to come in and read the recipe. This is such a fun snack to make with kids and trust me, I will have to find a secret spot to hide this from me 🙂

I laughed at your comment about having to store it on top of the fridge – I do the same thing when I make my favorite cake batter puppy chow! I usually bring it to work to share but the night before I have to hide the container on the top of our cabinets so I don’t eat it all myself. So addicting! Your strawberry version is so perfect for Valentine’s Day!!
