Spiced Pear Moscow Mule

The perfect fall cocktail,  this Spiced Pear Moscow Mule features spiced pear simple syrup, vodka, lime and ginger beer.  It’ll have you enjoying the flavors of Autumn sip after sip.

Love Moscow Mules?  May I suggest a Blueberry Moscow Mule or a Spiced Pear Moscow Mule?

So far I have been just smitten with Fall this year.

This past week the weather was in the 70’s and it was gorgeous outside.  When the sun was hitting my neighbors tree just right, it looked as if it were on fire.  The red, orange and yellow leaves are just beautiful this time of year.

I pray the warm weather will last a little while longer as the kids are enjoying playing in the leaves and I’m enjoying sitting outside and soaking it all in.

I’m also still rocking my flips flops even though I treated myself to some lovely red boots recently.  No worries though, the Midwest is yet to fail me with record snowfalls, so they’ll get worn eventually.

I’ve started to plan my Thanksgiving menu which is filled with some of the usual and a few new additions this year.

I’ve mentioned before I’m a huge planner so I usually start cooking and baking on Tuesday and store anything I can in the fridge so that Thursday morning is spent placing the bird in the oven and preparing the appetizers.

The men are usually in the basement enjoying the football and I’m cooking away, and drinking wine, in the kitchen with the girls.

However, this year, the Chicago Bears are playing the Packers, on Thanksgiving day.  Oy, what’s a Bears fan to do, you may ask? Sit down and root for DA BEARS, of course!

This year I plan to make simple appetizers, that can be enjoyed in front of the tv, while sipping on one of these Spiced Pear Moscow Mule with the family.

We spend our Sundays watching football, drinking libations and eating game day foods.

Gosh, you all must think our lives revolve around football and drinking as must as I mention both.  Well on the weekends, and Thanksgiving, it does.

One of our favorite cocktails to enjoy while casually hanging out is the Moscow Mule.

We’ve made many different versions including Blueberry Moscow Mules, Strawberry Moscow Mule Float, Cranberry Apple and now a Spiced Pear Moscow Mule.

Unlike the other Moscow mules where we used flavored vodka, in this one I used a spiced pear simple syrup.

Now, I pondered over how to do this for weeks until one day, I just strapped myself into the kitchen to get this done.  I first went on a hunt for Spiced Pear natural juice but I came up empty-handed.

There was none to be found within a 110 mil radius.  I thought about using a pear nectar I found but it was loaded with a whole bunch of junk.

I finally settled on a bottle of 100% organic pear juice

I started by making a simple syrup but instead of using water, I used the pear juice and added sugar.  I really wanted to emphasize the pear and worried the pears themselves wouldn’t come out strong enough.

I then boiled the mixture until the sugar was dissolved. Next, I added a cinnamon stick, nutmeg and cardamon.  I also diced up a pear and threw that in there as well.  I let the mixture hang out at room temperature, until it was cool.

Once the simple syrup was cooled, I strained it to remove the pears, cinnamon stick and any residuals that may have remained.

The simple syrup was so flavorful and smelled heavenly.

The aroma throughout my house was enough for me to make it daily.  It was like potpourri. The pear really shined through and the cinnamon was the perfect addition to really make the Autumn flavors sing.

To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of pears but for some reason this year, they are delicious to me.

I bought a bag and between me, the kids and this drink, it was gone in 2 days.  My kids have really taken a liking to them which is always a good thing when you’re adding new fruits to your diet.

I highly recommend you make this Spiced Pear Moscow Mule especially if you are a fan of Moscow Mules in general.  a traditional Moscow Mule is vodka, lime and ginger beer so I didn’t want to miss any of those components.

I think the pear paired beautifully with the lime and ginger beer and was a fun and unique twist on the classic.  It was simple, easy and delicious.  We use and prefer Tito’s Vodka, but feel free to use whatever you prefer and enjoy.

What are some of your favorite libations to enjoy while watching football and/or enjoying a Thanksgiving feast?

Very cool twist on the classic cocktail Megan. Never seen nutmeg & cardamom in a Mule before…made me think what this would taste like if served warm (holidays). Will have to try yours first then go from there. Thanks Megan.

This recipe is brilliant for using pear juice as a base…I had been boiling pear fruit to get the pear flavor in mine before (my thinking about this has been so uptight).

    I made the following adjustments:
    – Added a tablespoon of fresh, chopped ginger and a single star anise to the mix along with the other spices
    – I brought the pot to a slow simmer and left it for about 20 minutes

For a mule that tastes more like an apple pie, add 2 ounces of Licor 43 or Tuaca!

Nice work, Megan. I am impressed. Simply delicious. 🙂
