A complete guide on How to Throw a Cinco de Mayo Party with Ideas and Printables and how to make the ultimate Beergarita with your favorite Mexican beer and a delicious margarita.

How to Throw a Cinco de Mayo Party with Ideas and Printables

I am a party planner. I think it was my profession in my past life. I like to imagine that I was planning elaborate parties for celebrities, the rich and the famous, and the Queen of England herself.

I also used to own an invitation and stationary printable business. As the years have gone by, I have closed that side of my business. But my love of party planning has not faltered.

Any excuse/holiday to throw a party and I’m all in. So when it comes to planning a Cinco de Mayo party, I’m throwing down all the dinero! Just kidding, this is a budget-friendly Cinco de Mayo party!

It’s not Cinco de Mayo without the only cerveza that epitomizes the social, fun-loving spirit of the holiday: Corona Extra. So first and foremost, grab yourself a 12-pack and Ready. Set. Cinco!

CINCO DE MAYO MOOD BOARD

Set the scene for your entire party by creating a fiesta mood board with different themes, colors and ideas.

Think of the colors you would like to incorporate. Cinco de Mayo is filled with joyous, fun, and bright colors, so GO WILD!

Is your party going to be indoors or outdoors? Being in the Midwest in early May, our’s will be indoors. But if it’s nice, take the fiesta outside—just make sure there is plenty of seating.

Creating a mood board will allow you to get started off in the right direction and help keep you organized.

FIESTA DECORATIONS

You can shop at your local store and keep the Cinco de Mayo party budget friendly.

Search online where they have printables you can purchase for a few dollars and print them out at home. Hang a printable Cinco de Mayo banner above your taco bar and it’s an instant centerpiece to set the mood for your entire tablescape.

Grab plates, napkins and silverware in the color scheme so everything is coordinated and flows.

DRESS TO IMPRESS

When I saw this shirt, I had to get it. It was instantly in my cart and I couldn’t wait for the perfect moment to wear it.  Which happened to be this fiesta!

You can have a prize for the best dressed Señorita and Señor. Make it something fun like a pinata that everyone gets to smash into!

ASSEMBLE A BUILD YOUR OWN TACO BAR

Who doesn’t love a do-it-yourself taco bar where you can get crazy with the toppings?

Spread out corn and flour tortillas and have a big bowl of taco meat prepped and hot.

Simply cook ground beef with taco seasoning and lay out a large bowl. You can even prepare the meat a day in advance and keep in the refrigerator until you need to heat it before party time.

They also have the option to go vegetarian with the wide variety of condiments that are laid out on the table.

Taco Bar Condiments

Go simple. I laid out cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, black beans, salsa and sour cream.

I also bring out a large bowl of tortilla chips so guests can either make a taco salad or enjoy some chips and salsa as an appetizer.

SIPPIN’ ON BEERGARITAS

If I’m dining at a Mexican restaurant, you better believe I’m ordering a Beergarita. It’s the best of both Worlds: a margarita and an ice cold Corona Extra. So bring the classic drink home.

I also love to have a DIY bar at a party. It keeps you, the host, from having to play bartender all night. It’s a win-win for all!

Liven up your Beergaritas and have your guests GO WILD by making their own delicious versions.

We start with a basic margarita mix and a tub filled with Corona Extra. From there, we set up a DIY Beergarita station with all the fixin’s.

Add bowls of fresh strawberries, pineapple, blackberries, jalapenos, and prickly pear syrup.

HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT BEERGARITA

  • Place margarita glass on top of an opened Corona Extra. Carefully tip upside down.
  • In a cocktail shaker, add fresh fruit, syrup or herbs of your liking. Slightly muddle. Add ice, top with margarita mix base, and shake.
  • Pour into margarita glass about three quarters of the way up. Slowly allow Corona Extra to pour into the glass.
  • As you drink your beergarita, pull up on the bottle of Corona Extra to keep adding cerveza to your margarita base.

I’ve made a beergarita menu highlighting some recipes for your guests to “get fancy” with their own cocktail.

My favorite of all of these beergarita recipes is the Prickly Pear Beergarita.

The prickly pear cactus syrup pairs perfectly with the citrus lime and Corona Extra.

I hope these Cinco de Mayo tips, tricks and free printables help you throw an epic fiesta!

So when it’s time to plan the perfect Cinco de Mayo party, look no further than Corona, a DIY taco bar and these fun beergaritas.

Corona IS the holiday beer… and no Cinco de Mayo party is complete without it!
